Project Overview:
Local and statewide partners have continued to invest in infrastructure improvement projects to meet increased levels of service for growing populations with new modes of reliable transportation infrastructure. Such projects include new bridge construction, new roundabouts, lane widening, new road construction, existing road rehabilitation, improved pedestrian crossings, and traffic signal modernization. The common thread of these projects is an improved user experience for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Scope of Work:
Working with civil and structural engineering design teams, Wallace Group has provided geotechnical consulting, earthwork monitoring, special inspections, and quality assurance testing for our public clients on various local transportation projects. Geotechnical explorations and engineering have been performed to provide foundation design of new bridge abutments, traffic signal masts, concrete and MSE retaining walls, and flexible and rigid pavement design for new public roads and roundabouts. We were also the geotechnical engineers for one of the first applications of foamed asphalt pavement rehabilitation in the State of Oregon.
Challenges:
Each project site presents their own unique challenges. Often it is a tight schedule or limited public funding that will help to define our scope and services. Other challenges include limited access to targeted exploration locations given proximity to existing developments or rights-of-way, and sensitive existing utilities that cannot be disturbed during the subsurface reconnaissance. With over 25 years of local experience our team knows how to collect data efficiently using the least invasive tools possible.
"We trust Wallace Group geotechnical engineers to provide cost-effective and resilient solutions for our transportation and infrastructure projects. Their support and local knowledge are invaluable to the design team."
